Michigan Motto
“Si quaeris peninsulam amoenam, circumspice,” which is Latin for “If you seek a pleasant peninsula, look about you.” The state motto appears on Michigan’s state seal and state flag. It was adopted in 1835.

WHAT IS MICHIGAN FAMOUS FOR?
Michigan is known as The Motor City because it is the home of the American auto industry. Detroit, the largest city in Michigan, was once the world’s leading producer of automobiles. Today, you can still see signs of this proud history all over the state. There are many museums dedicated to cars and the auto industry, such as The Henry Ford Museum in Dearborn and the Automotive Hall of Fame in Detroit.

Football is revealed as Michigan’s top sport – home to The NFL’s Lions, who have played in Detroit since 1934. The second most popular sport is basketball, followed shortly by golf, baseball and Nascar. College football is also huge in Michigan, with fans following the University of Michigan Wolverines and Michigan State Spartans.
