“Esse Quam Videri” which means “to be rather than to seem.” It was made the official state motto in 1893. North Carolina was one of the last of the original states to adopt a state motto.

  • Most of the state falls in the humid subtropical climate zone; however, the western, mountainous part of the state has a subtropical highland climate.

North Carolina celebrates their annual New Year’s Eve Pickle Drop. This quirky tradition started in Mount Olive, North Carolina by Mount Olive Pickles. What started as a publicity stunt has now become an annual event that people come from all over to see. A pickle is dropped from a flagpole at midnight on New Year’s Eve, and the event is complete with live music and entertainment.
