- Oregon is a state in the Pacific Northwest region of the Western United States. At 98,381 square miles (254,806 km2), and with more than 4,246,155 million residents in 2021, it is the twenty-seventh-largest U.S. state.
- Oregon is one of the most geographically diverse states in the U.S., marked by volcanoes, abundant bodies of water, dense evergreen and mixed forests, as well as high deserts and semi-arid shrublands.
- Oregon’s only national park, Crater Lake National Park, comprises the caldera surrounding Crater Lake, the deepest lake in the United States.
- The state is also home to the single largest organism in the world, Armillaria ostoyae, a fungus that runs beneath 2,200 acres (8.9 km2) of the Malheur National Forest.
- The capital, Salem, is the second-most populous city in Oregon, with 169,798 residents. Portland, with 647,805, ranks as the 26th among U.S. cities.
- The Columbia River, which forms much of Oregon’s northern border, also played a major role in the region’s geological evolution, as well as its economic and cultural development.

What is Oregon famous for?
The Oregon Trail is a 2,170-mile-long historic trail that stretches from Missouri to Oregon. It was used by settlers in the 1800s as a way to travel westward in search of new opportunities. Today, the Oregon Trail is a popular tourist attraction. You can explore parts of the trail by foot, horseback, or even by wagon.

Professional and College Football is revealed as Oregon’s favorite sport, shortly followed by basketball and soccer! Rose City Rollers Roller Derby – Oregon’s very own all-female, volunteer-run roller derby team that have battled their way to the top of Portland’s sports fandom, and a world championship, in recent years.

Oregon is famous for its amazing natural wonders like Crater Lake, Mount Hood, and Cannon Beach. And you can’t talk about Oregon without talking about its most famous city: Portland. While Salem is the capital, Portland is what Oregon is most known for. From its bookstores, art scene, and obsession with birds, it definitely lives up to its reputation!
